Sosa family in Teotitlán del Valle
Reynaldo and Aurora Sosa live on a magical farm outside of the city of Oaxaca, with their two grown sons, and their daughters-in-law. The property has an orchard of mulberry trees, which feed the silkworms that they raise, sheep for wool, and a barn that houses a half dozen beautiful hand made pedal looms. All their products are hand-dyed, and they prepare the natural pigments themselves, grinding the indigo and the cochineal powder that are the base for their colored textiles. The family all work together, and the feeling of calm, energy, kindness and a reverence for the traditional craft of weaving is palpable in all that they do.
